The One Million Masterpiece
http://www.theonemillionmasterpiece.com/en/about01.php
I had the good fortune to wake up long before the family this morning, which gave me an oppurtunity to have a go at working on this little painting before all the chaos resumed
I found the link to this project through an art community I belong to, and am captivated by theconcept of this projectand the little painting program that goes along with it. It’salso fun to watch the painting process of the different works, if you go to an artists page and click the little arrow bottom left of the large image you can watch the entire painting process from start to finish…whee!
I’m sharing the link because I think some of you might be interested in this site, maybe for the fun doodle you can make, or perhaps to support the charities that will benefit from a donation, or maybe just to be part of the largest collaborative painting ever created. The 5 charities are Oxfam, WWF, Save the Children, World Cancer Research Fund, and ActionAid. You can choose to paint a little picture without contributing if you like, though, just select to paint without donating on the first page that comes upwhen you register.
I think this would be a good activity especially for those children who are home educating. This would make a goodaddition to a lesson on wildlife conservation for instance, something my son and I covered while studying the Amazon recently. We spent a couple of hours exploringsomewildlife charites, including the WWF…I wish I’d known about this then so he could have included a drawing and donation to them along with the lesson. Anyway,my kids will be adding their own paintings later this week
I hope very much that someone out there will enjoy this as much as I have!
BTW, you can view my painting at http://www.theonemillionmasterpiece.com/en/profile-447194, but I have to say I don’t really live in Bedrock
Yabadabadoo.

This is cool! I just joined and have no idea what to paint but will have a go at it.
Did I already invite you to join this other cool place for people who like to draw?
Illustration Friday
I am trying to invite as many spectrum-related people as I can, but lost track.

Yea! I’m glad you’re giving it a go.
You did invite me, but I haven’t signed up yet. I need to go back and look at how it works, I’m shockingly untechie for most stuff. I’m glad you reminded me

What a great link. I am going to use that idea in my art lesson tomorrow.

Autism Diva added a picture. Her’s is on up and 2 spaces to the right from yours.

Autism Diva watched your masterpiece being built stroke by stroke,…. it seems to take about 15 minutes in the replay mode, whereas most of the others on there take something like 2 minutes… watching your picture come together is like a serious painting lesson and the result is beautiful. No surprised there, though.

Mike that’s a great idea. We calculated how many artists will need to add a sqare from now till the projects completion, I don’t remember the exact number but it was something like 3,550 everyday. I’m glad you’re going to pass this on, they need all the artists they can get.
AD, I saw your work! It’s great, you did an excellent job! I loved watching on the replay, it’s cool to watch the design worked up and the interaction of the colours as they’re applied.
I wish I’d used ‘neurodiversity’ in my work now, but I’m going to add it to the description so it will show up if someone does a search. If anyone else wants to try this we could find each other’s stuff
I think I overdid it a bit on mine, I find it harder to stop than to start. I am NOT going to edit anymore (or so I tell myself lol)

It would be great if there were lots of pieces by autistic people. I don’t think there’s a limit on how many a person can do is there? Maybe they limit it to one person, but if they didn’t you could do another one, Mum. I love the rhinocerus beetle. My ASD child and I watched yours being re-created last night and when it was finished there wasn’t a beetle there.
I like that the jaguar is looking at the beetle now.

I’d love to see many paintings from autistic people in the project–it’s such a fun way to express yourself, and a good chance to show something that’s meaningful to each person.
I actually emailed the folks who run the project to ask about painting more than one square, and they answered (I’ll quote)
“Unfortunately, we don’t allow more then one square per person, as we are aiming to get 1million individual people onto the site.
However, if you have any relatives or friends that wish to take part, but don’t have access to a computer, you can always do one on their behalf!”
I guess that makes sense. BTW, I thought it was extremely nice of them to have answered so promptly
You noticed the beetle
That’s funny…yes, I’m having a hard time keeping my hands off this, and it doesn’t help that I choose ‘diversity’ as a theme. I keep thinking there should be many animals. Maybe a snake trailing down the side…or a bat hanging from a tree…but I think I should stop, I’m afraid the file size is growing too big!

It’s great to see your blog. I’ve already seen and commented on your square some time ago
Your square is great.
I actually ran out of drawing room. This is why I’m leaving you a message. Paul at the OMM is looking to increase the space for some of the larger pictures. I just thought I’d share because it’s actually so difficult to stay away, and I’ve had to for the last week!

Thank you so much for providing that information, I wanted to work more on my painting, but was worried the file was too big
They’ve done a fanstastic job of upgrading the program since I worked on mine, playback is so fast now! I’m really happy to know I can continue on with this
I LOVE your painting, I’ve watched it several times. I hope that animated paintings like yours will get a special place at the show…the finished product is stunning and beautiful, but watching the progress is quite touching, it has great emotional impact. I’m happy you’ll be able to continue, I’ve wondered where it will end up
